Alabama

In Alabama, state law requires that children under age 4 must ride in a federally approved, properly secured child car seat or booster seat. Children under age 6 must ride in a federally approved, properly secured child safety seat or vehicle seat belt.

 

Alaska

Children under 16 in a motor vehicle must be properly secured according to state child passenger safety law. Children under age 4 must be properly secured in a federally approved car seat or booster car seat. For children over age 4 but under age 16, Alaska state law requires that the child be properly secured in a vehicle seat belt or federally approved car seat or booster seat, whichever is appropriate for the particular child.

     
     

Arizona

All children under age 5 to be properly secured in a federally approved car seat or booster seat. Children age 16 and under must wear a seat belt when riding in the front vehicle seat..

 

Arkansas

children under age 6 and under 60 pounds be properly secured in a federally approved car seat or booster seat. If a child is at least age 6 and at least 60 pounds, but under age 15, Arkansas law requires that the child use a seat belt.

     
     

California

children must ride in a federally approved baby car seat or child booster seat until they are at least 6 years old or weigh at least 60 pounds. California also requires children under age 16 to be buckled up with a seat belt

 

Colorado

law requires that babies ride in a rear-facing car seat until they are one year of age and at least 20 pounds. Children ages one to four and between 20 and 40 pounds must ride in an appropriate car seat.  children who are over age 4 but under age 6 ride in a booster car seat, unless they are over 55 inches tall.

     
     

Connecticut

Children up to six years of age and under 60 pounds be properly restrained in a federally approved car seat or booster The law further requires that infants ride rear-facing until they are one year old and 20 pounds.

Delaware

Florida

Florida state law requires children under age 5 to be protected with an approved and properly used child restraint device. For children under 3, Florida law requires that they be in a separate car seat or a car seat that is integrated into the vehicle. For children ages 4 and 5, a separate car seat, integrated car seat or seat belt may be used.

   
     
     
     

Georgia

Indiana

children age 7 and younger MUST ride in a federally approved car seat or booster seat that is appropriate for the child's height and weight.  Children ages 8 to 16 must ride in a seat belt. The state of Indiana strongly encourages parents to place children in the back seat whenever possible, though this is not required by law

 

Iowa

Children under one year of age and  less than 20 pounds be secured in a rear-facing car seat. Children under age 6 be secured in an appropriate car seat or booster seat, Children over age 6 but under age 11 be secured in a booster seat or seat belt.

     
     

Kansas

Kentucky
