The hoosier state is known for its sports, particularly basketball. Try one of the following romantic destinations in Indiana, however, and you will soon know it for something else.

Indiana offers couples a wide variety of activities to enjoy while taking a romantic trip here. The many different golf courses (yes, we know women play too!) as well as Indianapolis, the home of the exciting Indy 500 are located here. The hospitality of the Midwest is also evident when you book romantic destinations in Indiana. Here, there are many sorts of establishments for couples looking to spend some time alone – inns and resorts, bed and breakfasts and hotels are all found throughout the state of Indiana.

One of the most romantic spots in Indiana is found in Brown County, Indiana, near what is known as “Little Nashville”. This spot offers couples the scenic beauty of the Little Smoky Mountains, as well as being close to the Brown County State Park, which is one of Indiana's most visited state facilities. The resort to see here is the Abbey-Inn, an adults only retreat located in Nashville, Indiana. This resort offers complete non-smoking accommodations to couples who are looking to spend a little time away from their everyday hectic life.

The Abbey-Inn offers 13 rooms to choose from, all with a combination of two person hot tubs, fireplaces, patios and balconies. The rooms at the Abbey-Inn are all meant to be private, in fact, they pride themselves on the fact that you may not see another guest the whole time you're staying here. Amenities such as snacks (biscotti and other delights), mini-fridge and coffee maker, and breakfast in bed mean that you won't have to leave your room unless you really want to.

If you prefer your romantic destinations in Indiana to be a bit more subdued and classic, why not try a stay at the 1877 House Bed and Breakfast in Jeffersonville, Indiana. This old converted farm house is just seven miles from the city of Louisville, Kentucky – and it is a great destination for couples from throughout the south or Midwest. All rooms include in-room fireplaces, private baths and even spa and relaxation packages for couples who really want to enjoy their special time together. Full gourmet breakfasts are included with your nightly accommodations.

No matter where in the state you choose, romantic destinations in Indiana are a great way to spend some time together. If you are located in the Midwest, Indiana is a perfect destination for your next adults only trip together.

History of Indiana
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Sunil_Tanna]Sunil Tanna

Indiana has long been inhabited by Native American peoples, and was part of the Mississippian cultural area.

The territory was claimed as part of the French empire until 1763. Following the Seven Years' War (generally known in the US as the "French and Indian War"), control of the area passed to Britain. In 1783, after the American Revolution, the area became part of the United States' Northwest Territory.

In 1816, Indiana was the 19th state admitted to the Union. As no slavery was allowed, it made an attractive destination for immigrants from Kentucky who disapproved of slavery.

At the outset of the American Civil War (1861 to 1865), Indiana was an enthusiastic contributor to the Union cause: more than three times as many men as Lincoln had called for volunteered. As the war went on with heavy casualties, war weariness did gradually begin to set in, and it was eventually necessary to introduce recruitment bounties and finally a draft (although 95% of Hoosiers who fought in the civil war were volunteers). Overall Indiana supplied about 200,000 men to the Union army (about 15% of the state's entire population), and more than one in eight of these lost their lives during the war.

In the late 19th century and early 20th century, industry began to arrive in Indiana which had previously been an agricultural state. This new industry included U.S. Steel and a number of automobile manufacturers. A testing facility for automobiles, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway was built in 1909, and from 1911 it has been the site of the famous Indianopolis 500.

Also located in the Indianapolis area is the Lake Haven Retreat, another one of the great Indiana RV facilities. Situated just two miles south of the city, this is a convenient spot to stay so you can enjoy all of the great activities in this area. Lake Haven offers 22 acres of full hookups, with 30 or 50 AMP electric.
